What stories are we telling ourselves about work?

That question has been following me for years. It's what led me back to university to study organizational theories.

It's what inspired my research on narrative agency. And it's part of what I'm now exploring in the book I'm writing.

I recently had the pleasure of talking with Nigel Rawlins on the Wisepreneurs podcast about these ideas.

We discussed why fewer people want to become managers, why AI makes human agency even more important, how our definitions of words like collaboration can shape the way we work together, and why changing work is not only about changing processes but also about changing the stories we collectively believe in.

One thing I keep coming back to is this: Organizations are made of narratives.
The way we define success, leadership, collaboration or even work itself isn't neutral.
These shared stories influence how we make decisions, how we relate to one another, and ultimately what we believe is possible. If we want to transform work, we also have to question the narratives behind it.

🎙️ If you're interested in work, organizations, agency or the impact of AI on our working lives, I hope you'll enjoy the episode.
